Meet Lori Johnston

I’ve helped hundreds of families across Sudbury and the surrounding area raise happy, well-behaved puppies. With many 5-star Google reviews, I’m proud to be one of Sudbury’s most trusted dog trainers and a go-to specialist for families bringing home a new puppy.

Bringing home a new puppy is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. Biting, potty accidents, jumping, chewing, and sleepless nights can leave you wondering if you’re doing everything wrong. You’re not. You just need the right guidance from day one.

As a certified Behaviour Therapist, I specialize in guiding families through every stage of puppy development, from the first week home through adolescence and beyond. Whether it’s potty training, bite inhibition, socialization, leash manners, or building a calm, confident puppy, I’ll show you exactly what to do and how to do it.

Training happens in your home, where your puppy actually lives and learns. No group classes, no overwhelming environments. Just real results with your puppy in the place that matters most.

We Understand How Overwhelming
a New Puppy Can Be

You love your puppy, but you’re exhausted and overwhelmed:

  • Your puppy bites everything – your hands, your furniture, your shoes – and you don’t know how to stop it
  • Potty training feels impossible – accidents everywhere despite your best efforts
  • Your puppy won’t stop jumping on everyone who walks through the door
  • Sleepless nights from whining, barking, and refusing to settle in the crate
  • You’re worried you’re doing everything wrong and creating bad habits that will be harder to fix later

You’re not alone. Early training sets your puppy up for a lifetime of good behaviour.

Why Our Approach Works Where Others Fail:

  • In-home training teaches your puppy good habits where they live
  • No punishment, no physical force – just clear, kind communication
  • Puppy-specific techniques for biting, potty training, and socialization
  • You learn to set boundaries and build confidence from day one
  • Understand your puppy better in the first 2-2.5 hour session
  • Lifetime Support Guarantee – help as your puppy grows through every stage.

Sudbury Families Who Got Puppy Training Help From Lori

“We highly recommend Lori Johnston at BarkBusters! Lori is incredibly knowledgeable and confident, which was evident from our very first session. We have an active Border Collie/Sheltie cross named Chloe, and Lori provided us with specific exercises that have been fantastic to work on. Chloe is responding well to the training. One of the best parts of working with Lori is her flexibility. She provides in-home training but is also available electronically. We really appreciate the fact that she is always just a phone call or text away if we have questions.
While we still feel we have more work to do with Chloe, we are so thankful to have Lori available to help us through the process. If you are looking for an effective and accessible trainer, Lori is the best!”
“We couldn’t be happier with our Bark Busters trainer, Lori. She is incredibly kind, approachable, and absolutely amazing with our dog, Sullie. From day one, she made us feel comfortable and confident, and it’s so clear that she truly knows what she’s doing. Lori is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cares about both the dog and the owners. She’s also been fantastic at accommodating our schedules, which has made the whole experience even better and stress-free. We honestly wouldn’t want it any other way – we’re so grateful to have Lori helping us raise Sullie the right way!”
“Bark Busters has helped us immensely with training our rescue puppy. In the beginning he was so nervous of everything, I couldn’t even walk him. Now he is such a gentleman on his walks.”

Puppy Training FAQs

How much does training cost?

We offer a one-time fee that includes your initial assessment, dog training sessions, and lifetime support. Pricing depends on your specific needs. Call 604-484-1941 for a free quote, or book a consultation to discuss your situation.

When should I start training my puppy?

The earlier, the better! Puppies can start learning from 8 weeks old. Early training prevents bad habits from forming and makes everything easier as your puppy grows. Whether your puppy is 8 weeks or 8 months, it’s never too early or too late to start.

Do you train all breeds and ages?

Yes! We’ve successfully trained puppies to senior dogs and all breeds. No dog is too old or too stubborn to learn.

What if my dog is aggressive? Is training safe?

Aggression is one of our specialties. Each Bark Busters trainer is trained on our unique “Stand Rite No Bite” system, and must pass a test to make sure they know how to safely approach aggressive situations. We use safe, effective communication techniques, and coach the humans on how to address the root cause of aggression to create lasting change.

Why in-home training instead of puppy classes?

Group puppy classes can be overwhelming and don’t address your specific challenges. In-home training teaches your puppy in the environment where they actually live, so they learn to behave where it matters most. Plus, you get one-on-one attention tailored to your puppy’s needs.

What does "lifetime support" really mean?

You can call us anytime – weeks, months, or years later – for advice or follow-up sessions. There’s no time limit. We’re here for the life of your dog.

Do I need special equipment like bark collars?

We do not use any form of shock collar during aggressive dog training. The Bark Busters Sudbury dog trainer will assess and advise you on what your specific dog will need. You do not need to go buy anything ahead of time.

How long are training sessions?

Most clients see what is possible in the first session, but of course – don’t forget – puppies are growing and changing! Challenges are expected, and we’re here to help you get out ahead of those – and stop problems before they even start. We schedule follow up appointments to suit your dog’s needs, developmental milestones and to help you! Your lifetime guarantee means you always have the support you need.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Sudbury, Richmond, Surrey, Delta, New Westminster, Langley, East Sudbury, Kitsilano, Shaughnessy, Ladner, Tsawwassen, White Rock, Abbotsford, and surrounding Lower Mainland areas.
