Dog training in Squamish, Whistler, West Vancouver

Barb Cooke

Master Dog Trainer, Behaviour Therapist & Director of Training

I started my Bark Busters career in Australia in 1997 and have since helped over 5000 dogs and their families. Prior to joining Bark Busters, I was a Food Scientist and Project Manager with Kellogg’s. After being a client myself, I discovered how immensely rewarding and fulfilling it is to teach people to better understand and relate to their dogs. My husband and I own the Canadian Bark Busters business and we have personally taught all of our trainers across the country. On my days off, you can find me hiking in the mountains, biking with our lovely rescue dog, Gordon, or playing violin with my community orchestra.

What I love about my job

The immediate improvement in human-dog relationships is nothing short of miraculous when a greater mutual understanding occurs. I am passionate about teaching humans and dogs about this connection and growing the bond of love and trust between them. What could be more rewarding than that?

Why I became a trainer

My interest in Bark Busters started with my little Australian Terrier, Big Red. He barked non-stop at my neighbours and cried and howled whenever I left him alone. I tried everything I could think of and it was upsetting that I couldn’t seem to make his life better. I know how it feels to love your dog and be frustrated by certain behaviours. Once I found Bark Busters and it changed my life. I want others to experience the incredible changes that can occur when dogs and humans simply understand each other better.

My areas of expertise include:

  • Puppy training
  • Separation anxiety in dogs
  • Stopping excessive barking
  • Dog aggression and aggression toward humans
  • Leash training, including leash pulling
  • Stopping dogs from jumping on people
  • Food aggression in dogs and resource guarding
  • Reactive dog training
  • General obedience training
  • And more...
I have two yappy Pomeranians and never ever had a moment of silence in my house for years. Before Barb, we tried every training video, every tv show, every gadget, and every bit of advice we could have, with no luck. Within the first lesson, Barb helped us gain leadership with our dogs and finally for once have peace in our house! And peace for our dogs too! I honestly have to say the experience was life-changing, and that’s only with one lesson. Sara Plain
