Protecting the door.
If ever there was a case for dog training, Spud was it! Spud had taken over the door to the home, barking and charging at everyone who entered, other than pack members. He had decided that it was his responsibility to protect his pack and territory, and unless you knew Spud, he was very alarming because he was big, strong and intense.
Outcome Descriptions:
Spud had placed an urgency in the matter of acting on the ‘risk’ that appeared at the door every time it was knocked on or the doorbell was used. I explained to the family that this job of protector was a leadership responsibility, and that if they presented new leadership behaviour towards Spud at the moment there was activity at the door, he would surrender responsibility for this role, and instead relax. They did a great job and presented themselves as leaders very effectively and the change was instantaneous. They were now dog trainers! They were entertaining many guest in their home that coming weekend and normally would not allow Spud to be among the visitors, but he was put to the test and behaved beautifully.
Client Comment / Review:
I had to share this with you, considering we were so concerned with Spud. As you know, we had 40 people at our house on Saturday night. Both dogs were amazing. Spud was incredible Saturday night, no growling or barking at anyone… I know we still have a long way to go, but I have to say I am already impressed with how you ‘trained’ us!
