Jody B.

Trainer(s): Lisa Marshall
people aggression, crate training, dog aggression

Dog Name:  Oscar

Dog Age:  2 Yrs. 6 Mos.

Dog Breed:  Miniature Schnauzer

Behaviour issues:

Severe people aggression and dog aggression, excessive barking at the door, leash pulling, recall issues.

Jody lived in the Queen West area of Toronto and called me at her wits end and very grateful that her parents were offering her the gift of training (yes gift certificates make great Christmas presents!). Oscar was a very nervous and fearful little guy who tried to warn people to stay away by barking excessively at them but some people won’t listen and keep on trying “to make friends” so he had taken to lunging, snapping and biting at them. Jody was scared and nervous to have him around anyone anymore which of course made the situation worse.

Outcome Descriptions:

By the end of our session Oscar was no longer charging the door at full tilt with intent to maim! He was instead showing signs of submission, and backing away from the door with each correction Jody gave. We also got him into his crate for the first time without a breakdown of scratching and howling and were doing controlled calm exits – he no longer looked like a dog released from the gate at a hound race when the door was opened.

Client Comment / Review:

Over the past two and a half years of his young life I have attempted to resolve the problems (with my dog Oscar) by myself by reading books, watching TV shows and even attending puppy training classes, all to no avail. Last week I reached my limit and called my mother in tears when I was embarrassed by my dog's behaviour at the dog park. She suggested that I contact Bark Busters as she was working with someone in Ottawa who was signing his own dog up for Bark Busters in Ottawa. I reviewed your website and called right away to find out more. I was lucky enough to be put into contact with you and your flexible schedule allowed you to see us just the very next week!
At first I was apprehensive; I honestly didn't believe that I could get my little 'terror' to ever listen to me! I was at my wits end and was ready to give up. I did not realize the extent of his problems until we allowed him to demonstrate them upon your initial visit to the apartment. At the beginning of the session I realized that I was a fool to wait so long to get help. I believe that embarrassment and the feeling that I had failed as a dog owner had prevented me from acting sooner. Within minutes of learning the correction command BAH and the techniques Bark Busters teaches I was a believer. Oscar was listening and looking to me for direction! By the end of the session I was motivated and relieved that I could have a dog that I, as well as others, can enjoy. Thank you Lisa, for teaching me the skills I needed in order to make this happen!

(Now I have to ask myself) "Who is this dog and what have you done with my 'asshole' Oscar"? I was in disbelief! The exit (from his crate in the morning) was a success and so was the entire morning. I want to thank you again and again and again for coming to help me!
