Jessica and Paul H.

Trainer(s): Tim Girouard

Dog Name:  Smith

Dog Age:  8 months

Dog Breed:  German Short Haired Pointer

Behaviour issues:

Smith's main problem for Jessica and Paul is that he pee's in his crate when they are not home.  He also pulls on walks, steals food when they are not looking, chases the cat and follows Jessica closely around the house (the first sign the dog cannot separate).

Outcome Descriptions:

The main focus of our plan was to take Smith out of the mode that makes him feel like he is the 'pack leader'.  We did this by having Jessica and Paul assume leadership by interacting with Smith in a manner that makes Smith realize that they are the pack leaders.  Smith had tested Jessica and Paul, when he got to about 6 months, which is common in young dogs, and found their leadership lacking so he stepped up and began to assume leadership.  The fact that he is young and doesn't have the temperament for leadership caused Smith to suffer Separation Anxiety when they were gone, in effect, stress when they are not around.  Stress takes many forms and urination in the crate is a big one as dogs normally don't urinate where they sleep.  Jessica and Paul struggled a bit at first so I stopped by to offer them the support we guarantee and they had the success they wanted.

Client Comment / Review:

Hi Tim,     Just thought we’d send you a quick update email.

Smith is doing very well since our last visit with you, in fact this past week we had a ‘pee free’ week for the first time EVER! Needless to say Paul and I were very excited and proud of him.  He has a ways to go yet, but we have definitely seen some big improvements!

Thank you for all your help, and have a Merry Christmas!
