Oslo Sitting in Park

Dog Name:  Oslo

Dog Age:  3 years

Dog Breed:  West Highland Terrier

Behaviour issues:

Biggest issues is the aggression towards other dogs.  He used to be able to go to the dog part but some bad associations made him more afraid of other dogs.  He is also is ball driven and will jump on owner if the ball is in Sarabeth hand.

One of Sarabeth goals was to be able to walk by other dogs and eventually to be able to go to Dog Parks in Ottawa ( on leash and off leash dog parks).  The dog training was done in her home first. ( Ottawa )

Outcome Descriptions:

We worked on controlling the environment in the house first and then we went for a long walk.  He reacted once at the beginning of the walk and after this we were able to walk by an off-leash dog park and also by 2-3 other dogs that were barking at him and he was relaxed and calm.  He was also not pulling anymore and was behind or to the side of Sarabeth.

The exercises in the house enabled us to gain some general control over him and then we were able to apply the same logic outside.  Oslo responded well to the correction and Sarabeth's corrections were great.

Worked on going to the off leash park down town.  Sarabeth used to be able to go there but after he was attacked he was too aggressive with other dogs.  We started by walking by the park.  Since we saw some great progress the last few days we decided to go in.  At the beginning there were 2 other dogs, 15min later there were over 10.  Oslo loved it.  No aggression at all, he was running around and enjoying his time.  Body language was calm and relaxed.

My dog is three and a half years old, and started becoming aggressive with other dogs while we were out for walks. I his attitude in general is happy go lucky, so this behavior made me nervous, which didn't help the problem. Alana was great over our telephone consultation and I decided that Bark Busters was for us. We had our first meeting with Marco a couple of days later. I'll admit, it was hard work, as were the next couple of days while me and the pooch did our homework. But the resulting change in behavior happened so quickly, it's very much worth it. Both Alana and Marco are great to work with and I appreciate their support. I would recommend Bark Busters to anyone who feels they need help with their best friend.

She was very happy to have her old Oslo back.  She told me she was again able to walk by other dogs and he did not react negatively. Before the training he did not want to go for a walk, now he is enjoying it again.  She also loves that she can go back to the dog park.  She told me she feels he is much happier.

We received an email from Sarabeth with an update.  She received one of our automatic newsletters with training tips and she wrote us this:

Hi Alana and Marco,

I was thinking about you guys the other day. On Tuesday morning Oslo and I were out for our morning walk when I saw the golden retriever that he wasn't a fan of. While I angled off in the opposite direction, Oslo wanted to say hello, he wasn't doing it in the aggressive manner that he's done in the past, so I decided to see what it would be like. The two pooches exchanged a friendly greeting and we were on our way. It was a great way to start a Tuesday, and you know he got tons of praise!

We're continue to follow your tips, and I see improvements in his behavior. He still has a temper with some dogs, but overall he's more like the friendly dog that I've always known.

Hope all is well with you!
